Knight Street Bridge Shear Enhancement

Translink has decided to complete a seismic upgrade on the Knight Street Bridge, originally built in 1974. A bridge analysis completed by Associated Engineering found that approximately 42 pier caps required additional reinforcement to meet the current seismic codes set forth in British Columbia. Fibrwrap offered its services to provide a cost-effective solution to meet these requirements.

Fibrwrap installed the uni-directional Fyfe Company Tyfo® SCH-41 system to supplement the required confinement and shear enhancement set forth by the consulting engineers, Associated Engineering Ltd.

Implementing state-of-the-art technology, the owner was provided an alternative to conventional construction which resulted in vast time savings, reduced remedial costs and no operational downtime with the installation of the fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) system.

Fibrwrap completed the Knight Street Bridge project in a cost-effective manner, ahead of schedule with the use of a superior FRP.
